JazzBaroque

The JazzBaroque Trio formed in the summer of 2010. The Trio’s music is a synthesis of jazz and baroque melodies.

In contrast with the well-known musical settings of jazzy baroque music, the Trio plays “baroque-y” jazz, where the baroque elements themselves are results of high-level composing activities. Improvisation, which is the fundamental link between the two styles, plays an important role in the composition process.

The reworked jazz standards show up in well-known baroque forms (such as preludes, arias, inventions etc.) and follow precisely the harmony modes of the standards. In this manner the jazz and baroque styles can be brought out synchronously, offering a novel musical adventure to the highbrow listener. Within each piece of the performance we can simultaneously listen to “baroque”, jazz and the amalgam of the two styles.

Byzantium Jazz Project

The Byzantium Jazz Project is based on the specific tonalities of Byzantine music. The sound world of this originally two-voiced vocal genre, adapted to a modern understanding and embedded in compositions using elements of Jazz, is resounding now instrumentally. In some of the compositions Byzantine singers are joining the traditional quartet formation.
